Thoughts

Posted on: September 19, 2009

The pre Copernican world used to think that the Sun moves around the Earth. But haven’t we moved on to assume that the Universe moves around the human mind?

What is the probability that the human mind may be equipped to understand the laws which govern the universe? Do we even have the right tools? Arent concepts like “probability”, “universe”, “laws”, the constructs of the human mind itself? Isnt is like trying to watch a movie with your ass?

I suppose its about the best we can do with our middling brains. We need to understand, and the only way to do that is to start from something that is assumed to be easy.

I dont think the universe really cares that we think up ways and means to discover the laws that govern it. We do it for ourselves. Its probably not a pre-existing thing, we make it up, so we can tell ourselves we understand better.

We’re not a very smart species, yet.

Where are you, bigger brains? *looks skyward*

They are.

I think the idea has moved from “the universe exists because we exist” to we trying to make sense of the vastness around. like a bug on a pachyderm trying to understand the texture of its surroundings to settle safer and better, rather than assuming that the pachyderm obeys its idea of it.

perhaps there will be better tools to come. but as long as we do not forget that it’s we who are trying to map the terrain to whatever language we have discovered so far, rather than the terrain mapping to our idea – i think we’re fine.

“Everything has been figured out except hpw to live.” Jean Paul Sartre

“I do not believe in God; his existence has been disproved by Science. But in the concentration camp, I learned to believe in men.”..Sartre

The problem is not the figuring out but the coping with. The approach is that of an experimental more than a theoretical scientist.

Intriguing
